Reported a roof leak back in February coming from site of solar panel installation. Their own technician came out and confirmed that. Here it is five months later and the problem has yet to be corrected.
I honestly regret my choice to go with Sunrun. I would never have chosen to get solar panels if i knew they weren’t going to save me any costs towards my electric bill. I still am paying an insane amount of money every month for electricity AND pay them for a service that is doing the bare minimum. If you call and they offer a rebate “after 2 years,” (mind you, they absolutely make that a point), the rebate is literally nothing compared to the amount I have to pay for UI AND these panels. If I could absolutely have them removed tomorrow, I would. I’m glad other people have had an amazing experience with the company but unfortunately, that is not my case, and I hate it. I hate absolutely every bit of having them.
Huge mistake getting panels from sunrun. My electric bill was still extremely high with the system supposedly over producing. Reached out to sunrun and was told the system was producing what was agreed in the contract. I was told before signing that my electric bill would be between $11 and $14 never had a bill below $400. Now I’m stuck paying for a system that doesn’t work. I have reached out numerous times and I am always told the same thing, they will look into it and it always turns out that everything is running fine even though I was told by other people from sunrun that something was not right. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND RUN FROM SUNRUN!!! THEY WILL PROMISE YOU UNREALISTIC ELECTIC PRICES AND THEN AFTER YOUR LOCKED IN YOUR STUCK PAYING FOR SOMETHING THAT DOSEN’T WORK. I WOULD GIVE NO STARS IF IT WAS AN OPTION! SAVE YOURSELF THE STRESS AND DON’T USE THEM.
I’ve updated this review to 4 stars because they finally did follow up and address the issue.
ustomer service is non-existent! I have tried to call them many times and tried logging on to the old Sungevity account. I never see a bill or an output statement. Now they are telling me they will stop guaranteeing the output.
NEVER EVER EVER DO BUSINESS WITH SUNRUN!!!! They are the worst. They’re extorting me for $3910 after their inspector lied and said my roof that had four layers of shingles on it, and had existing water damage was fine to put solar panels on. When the roof leak got so bad a year later they charged me $3910 to remove and reinstall the panels. It took two hours of labor to remove and reinstall but apparently this is their SCAM! They tell people it is fine to install the panels and then they charge ten times more than any other company to remove and reinstall. The best part is while water is leaking into your house and damaging your home and your health, they take their time about sending a crew out before a roofer can get anywhere near your roof! My roofer said the damage was absolutely there for more than a year! SUNRUN is a company of con artists and liars. Do business with them at your own risk!
The upkeep fees and the extra costs will basically negate any savings the system generates and while hard to predict, I will likely come out far behind.
Long post, the summary is that I’ve saved ~$700 a year over 3 years on this system, but upkeep and extra costs have imposed ~$4700 and counting in costs over that same period and other buyers can probably assume similar costs (unless you live in an area without any wild animals or weather). See below re caveats with my calculations.
I acquired a lease from the previous owner of my house. First, lets go into some rough back of the envelope calculations that I made re the energy generated and the cost of the lease (this is for the Northeast region of the US). The lease has been increasing in price over the past few years (it was a backended lease so this is expected), but has been $100-150/month. The system will generate approximately $200-250/month over the summer given current (Q1 2024) energy costs and approximately $100/month during the winter. Although that is assuming the system is optimized (keep reading). So right now, assuming only the costs associated with the lease, I’m coming out ahead given the increased energy production over the summer. On my electric bills, these savings are readily apparent from May to November (so lets say I save ~$700 a year).
However, then there are servicing fees plus the additional costs involved with maintaining a house that now has solar panels. Two years ago, I had to have my roof replaced because it was at the end of its lifetime. Because of the solar panels, I had to have Sunrun come and remove the solar panels and replace them. In addition, while they were removing the panels, they found that squirrels were getting in under the solar panels and nesting there and also chewing through the electrical equipment thus damaging the output from the network. The system had to be fixed (although I don’t have access to the itemized bill right now). In addition, they recommended installation of a “critter guard”, which basically wraps around the panels and prevents squirrels from getting back underneath the panels and nesting there. Seemed like a reasonable purchase at the time especially since according to the lease, we are responsible for any damage that wildlife impose on the system (this isn’t covered in their warranty). Overall, this amounted to $4700. Maybe bad luck/timing, but there wasn’t anything I could do about this. Now, we recently had a snow storm however, and a section of the critter-guard got ripped down by the snow. I called Sunrun about this, and they said that to repair this, I would need to replace all the critter guards, which would be ~$1600. Right now, we are looking into getting a contractor (that they need to approve) to perform the repairs, but they still need to inspect the system afterwards for $350 (not to mention I’m not sure what the costs the contractor will impose are).
I asked SunRun what their warranty will cover and they essentially said if the equipment fails on its own (basically only faulty manufacturing as far as I could tell). A representative told me that it doesn’t cover damage caused by squirrels. The critter guards are only under warranty for one year, so we are out of luck on that front too. Thus, we are currently stuck with a choice of either not replacing the critter guard (and probably having squirrel related damage to the system that we will pay for in terms of energy savings now and physically when the lease ends later and we are responsible for the costs).
Now some caveats worth mentioning:
– I only assumed savings from energy generation by the system, there might be some green energy discounts etc.
– I’ve only owned the system since purchasing the house in 2020, assuming that nothing happened to the system since it was installed in 2016 by the previous owner, then the costs I calculated above would apply over 8 years rather than 3 years.
Would not leave after I said repeatedly that we were all set. Also he knocked on the door despite us having a very clear “no soliciting” sign. When I mentioned the sign, he said I’m not selling anything, which obviously isn’t true given that he works for Sun run solar.
BY FAR WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE ON THE PLANET. I HAVE A BROKEN PANEL ON MY ROOF THAT IS LITERALLY A FIRE HAZARD AND THEY REFUSE TO COME FIX THE PROBLEM WITH THEIR EQUIPMENT. WOULD RATHER SEE MY HOUSE BURN TO THE GROUND WITH MY 4 YEAR ONLD AND 5 MONTH OLD INSIDE BEFORE LOOSING $100 TO SEND A TECHNICIAN OUT. THEY SURE DONT STOP ASKING FOR MONEY THOUGH THAT IS FOR SURE, GET A PHONE CALL EVERY TEN MINUTES!!! WORST SOLAR COMPANY ON THE PLANET, THEY ALSO REFUSE TO PROVIDE ME WITH OVER PRODUCTION CREDITS, JUST OUT OF THE BLUE SINCE SUN RUN BOUGHT OUT MY CONTRACT I JUST STPOED RECEIEVING THEM, WEIRD. SUN RUN RATHER SEE FIRE AND DEATH THEN SPEND MONEY OUT OF POCKET TO FIX PROBLEMS AS A RESULT OF THEIR EQUIPTMENT.
Nate is extremely helpful and was great throughout the whole process. The install was quick easy and communicated well.
Solar panels have been deactivated for 2 months. A technician came and stated they fixed the issue and my system still says deactivated and all I get is customer service run arounds and a case manager who never answers
Hell on wheels. Never get involved with these schysters. They call from morning to night in spite of repeated requests to stop. They lost a class action suit regarding misleading marketing practics!
Two representatives came to our door today. We told them we were not interested, but would not take no for an answer. They were quite rude. When they went next door to my 100 year old mother in laws house, they were persistent with her aide. My son told her to tell them she was not the home owner and not interested. The young man was rude and said to my son, “What, you answering for the neighborhood?” VERY rude. After that I would not want to deal with this company.
I’m stuck paying for a service I’m not getting. out of nowhere our solar stop producing , making our electric bill skyrocket. we contacted sunrun and we were informed the solar panels were malfunctioning, and that tech support would be out to take a look. 2 months later and no tech support, we call them and they keep us waiting for hours until the phone call eventually drops. horrible tech support and horrible customer service. ps they lie bout the referral money.
Krista Borsari, the Sunrun sales person who sold me my solar system, has been excellent from the day she knocked on my front door.
She answered questions right away, stopped by to talk over the set up, and was always positive and pleasant to work with. She is very good with every aspect of customer service and Sunrun is lucky to have such a dedicated, hard-working employee.

Gave in to the sales pitcher at Costco. Then when there was a need for an at home visit, I had a super negative sales experience. After the initial appointment was cancelled. Rep was then gonna come late to the appointment. So Asked whether I needed to be there thinking he might just need measurements, but he said I scheduled the home consult, didn’t I? He came wreaking of hash/tobacco. And after a brief intro, he decided to abruptly leave the sales visit when I asked him to give me a better estimate of my electrical usage. Wouldn’t want this kind of representative back at my house.
I reported the issue to Sunrun over three weeks ago and have yet to receive a response from the company regarding when someone will come to investigate the problem. This lack of response is unacceptable and I am extremely frustrated with the service I have received thus far.
I understand that scheduling can be challenging, but three weeks is far too long to wait for a response and resolution to a problem that is affecting the integrity of my home. I expect prompt and professional service from a company that has been entrusted with the installation of a major component on my roof.
I am not recommended Sunrun to any customer because of the worst customer services.
Called for a quote and was told the roof was to high and they could not do the install. I was told 30 feet was the max, our roof is 36-38 feet.
So, I was poached by sunrun when I was already trying to get solar panels from a different company. I looked at the reviews online and the only negative were the time it took from start to finish of the project. I started this process maybe January of this year (certainly in the spring). Before they started I told them the wiring was bad and they would need to fix it before stating the project. We are all in agreement to upgrade the electric panels in basement then install the solar system. They start the work in the basement, leave a mess with the wiring, then ask me to get a different electrician to complete the wiring. I agree to do that and just finished that whole “update the electric process” end of October. DO you want to know what they did? THEY CANCELED my solar project, they don’t even tell me, I find out when I get a bill for 10,990 to pay for electrical work they did. When I called to ask why the project is canceled the rep states “there is no safe way to get to the roof.” So you mean to tell me that second visit to assess the roof you guys did not realize you could not get to my roof? whatever that even means because its a regular house with a driveway. I call them on 11/1 asking for a discussion and they said they would call me back 24-48H. As of today, still no answer. called them again and I was told it would be another 24-48H. Please do yourself a favor and avoid these people. So unprofessional.
Please simply take your panels and equipment back and spare all parties involved the pain and suffering. 3 years of electricity costs was the quote to remove and replace panels in order to replace the roof. 2 months lead time for the removal which took less than 90 minutes. During the same call for removal they also scheduled reinstallation with no consideration for the fact that I need to coordinate the roof replacement and other efforts with other parties. Now with my project now complete, trying to get the panels back on the house (against my better judgement) they can’t give me a date?? Completely cost ineffective, slow to handle any considerations with the system but stop your auto pay and they are on it. To summarize my most recent phone call: “No panels on your house? Too bad. Do you recall your contract? You have to pay. We’ll credit it you back later [may be].” To be clear Sunrun in general, the corporate entity, not limited to North Haven, is the problem.
